Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) page! Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about our online therapy services. If you don’t see your question answered here, feel free to reach out to us directly.
1. What is online therapy?
Online therapy, also known as teletherapy, is a form of counseling where you can meet with your therapist through a secure video call, phone call, or text-based messaging platform. This format offers flexibility and convenience while ensuring you still receive the same quality care as in-person therapy.
2. How do I get started with online therapy?
To get started, simply follow these steps:
Contact us: Reach out via our contact page or email to schedule an initial consultation.
Complete intake forms: After scheduling, you will receive an intake form to gather some basic information about your background and goals.
Schedule your first session: Once your intake is complete, we’ll schedule your first session at a time that works best for you.
Attend your session: Join the session through our secure video platform (or by phone) and begin your therapy journey.
3. Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Yes! Research has shown that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many individuals. Online therapy offers the same evidence-based approaches, with the added benefit of convenience and accessibility. However, if you're experiencing a crisis or need intensive care, we may recommend in-person services or connect you with additional resources.
4. What technology do I need for online therapy?
For video sessions, you’ll need:
A computer, tablet, or smartphone with a camera and microphone.
A stable internet connection to ensure a smooth session.
A private, quiet space where you can talk without interruptions.
We use secure, HIPAA-compliant platforms like [Zoom, Doxy.me, or Google Meet] for all sessions to ensure your privacy and confidentiality.
5. Are online therapy sessions confidential?
Absolutely. We take your privacy seriously and use encrypted, HIPAA-compliant platforms to protect your personal information. All sessions, including video, phone, and messaging, are secure, and we adhere to strict confidentiality standards to ensure your comfort and safety.
6. What if I have a technical issue during a session?
If you experience technical difficulties, please let us know as soon as possible. You can:
Send us a message via email or text to inform us of the issue.
Try restarting your device or switching to a different network.
If the problem persists, we can reschedule or offer a phone session as an alternative.
We will always work with you to ensure your therapy continues smoothly.
7. How do I pay for online therapy?
We accept various forms of payment, including:
Credit or debit cards
Health Savings Accounts (HSA) / Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
Venmo or Zelle
8. Do you accept insurance?
We are not in-network with any insurance company. However, we provide monthly statements to our clients and superbills, allowing them to submit to their provider of choice for possible reimbursement. Individual coverage varies by provider and may not be available for reimbursement. Please contact your carrier with your insurance information so they can verify your benefits and determine your out-of-pocket costs.
9. How long is each therapy session?
Most therapy sessions are 50-55 minutes long. However, session length can vary depending on your needs and the therapeutic approach being used. If you feel that longer sessions would benefit you, please let us know, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs. Rapid Transformational Therapy Sessions typically last for 3-2.5 hours and can be in-person or virtual. Our Keewaydin Island Private Beach Therapy Session offering lasts 4 hours plus the time to get to and from the beach location on Keewaydin Island, usually 15-20 minutes each way.
10. What should I expect during my first session?
Your first session will primarily focus on getting to know each other and setting goals for your therapy. We’ll discuss your history, current challenges, and the reasons you sought therapy. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask questions and ensure you feel comfortable with the process.
11. Can I switch therapists if I don't feel like it's a good fit?
Yes, absolutely. The therapeutic relationship is important for your success in therapy, and if you feel that your therapist isn’t the right fit for you, we encourage open communication. You may request to be referred to another therapist within or outside of our practice.
12. What issues can therapy help with?
Online therapy can help with a wide range of concerns, including:
Anxiety and depression
Relationship difficulties
Stress management
Grief and loss
Trauma recovery
Life transitions (e.g., career changes, moving, etc.)
Self-esteem and personal growth
If you're unsure whether therapy is the right option for you, feel free to schedule a consultation to discuss your needs.
13. How often will I need to attend therapy?
The frequency of sessions depends on your personal goals and circumstances. For many clients, weekly or bi-weekly sessions are recommended at the start, but we can adjust the frequency as we move forward and based on your needs. Additionally, we offer Rapid Transformational Therapy as a short and powerful way to approach solving your issues/concerns in 3 sessions or less.
14. Can I do therapy via text or email?
We offer therapy via secure messaging as an option in addition to video or phone sessions. However, the primary focus of therapy is often more effective in real-time sessions. If you're interested in text-based therapy, we can discuss whether it’s a good fit for your goals.
15. What happens if I miss a session?
If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a cancellation fee. We understand that life happens, and we will do our best to accommodate you, but advanced notice allows us to offer the timeslot to other clients.
16. How do I know if online therapy is right for me?
Online therapy can be a great option for many people, especially those who:
Have busy schedules or limited access to in-person services.
Live in remote areas or have mobility challenges.
Prefer the comfort and privacy of their own home.
If you’re unsure, we recommend starting with an initial consultation to discuss your goals and see if this format aligns with your needs.
